| How much does a Mammograms & Manicures Party cost? |
| Your Mammograms Manicures Party, including your manicure, is absolutely free—courtesy of Southtowns Radiology and Blu Spa Salon! Your only price of admission is a prescription from your doctor for a yearly mammogram and your insurance card. Most insurance plans do not require a co-pay for a routine mammogram, but if your insurance does include a co-pay the staff will advise you of this during pre-registration. |
| Do I have to pre-register for this event? |
| Yes. All parties must be booked through our Mammograms & Manicures line, at 558-5407. You will be asked to leave your contact information and an associate from Southtowns Radiology will call you back to book the party. You must have the names and phone numbers for all the ladies in your group at the time of booking. This information will be given to our registration department who will then contact all members individually to pre-register for your mammogram. Pre-registration is a quick, over-the-phone process that makes any paperwork on the evening of your party go much faster, so that you and your friends can get on to the fun! It also allows our staff to arrange for any films from previous mammograms to be sent to Southtowns Radiology by the time of your mammogram. |
| Can I book a party for one or combine with another group? |
| Unfortunately we do not allow for parties of less than four people at this time. And in order to keep the event fun and intimate for everyone, we also cannot allow smaller parties to combine with other groups. If you are an individual who would like to book a mammogram and you do not have enough people for a Mammograms & Manicures party, we encourage you to have your mammogram done during regular business hours at our Orchard Park (558-5400) or Hamburg (649-9000) offices. |
| What is a typical party like? |
| On the evening of the event, your group will arrive between 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM at the Southtowns Radiology Orchard Park office. Be sure to bring your doctor’s prescription and your insurance card. Your group will gather in the waiting room, where you can enjoy some light refreshments and music while each person has their mammogram done. Once the group is finished, everyone will proceed next door to Blu Spa & Salon where you will have your free manicure. Mammograms & Manicures parties typically run from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM—from start to finish—depending on the size of the group and any time limitations they may have. |
| When will the radiologist read my mammogram? |
| Mammograms & Manicures parties are held in the evening, so there will be no radiologist at the facility during your exam. The exam itself is performed by our board certified technicians exactly as it would be if you were coming in during regular business hours. The morning after your exam, our radiologist will read your mammogram and send out your results. |
| Does having a mammogram hurt? |
| At Southtowns Radiology, our experienced technicians do their best to make the experience as gentle and comfortable as possible and many women report feeling no significant discomfort. |
| How long does it take to get a mammogram? |
| It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to have the images taken. At Southtowns Radiology, you will have a digital mammogram, and the images are available almost instantly for the technician to assess and adjust your positioning, if needed. |
| Why is having a mammogram screening important? |
| Breast cancer is highly detectable through mammography screening. The earlier it is discovered, the greater a woman's chance for survival. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women ages 40-55. Don't become a statistic. |

| Breast Cancer Facts |
Early diagnosis and treatment are key to surviving breast cancer. Less than one-third of American women follow doctors’ guidelines for having a mammogram, according to the breast cancer advocacy group Y-ME.
Studies from the National Cancer Institute show that 96 percent of women whose breast cancer is detected early live five or more years after treatment. |
| What else can I do to support breast health? |
Two ways to support breast health, in addition to having a routine mammogram, are breast self-exams and clinical breast exams.
A breast self-exam is important for observing and examining your breasts for any changes in their normal texture and appearance. You should do a self-exam once a month, about the same time every month. The best time to do the self-exam is right after your monthly period. It is recommended women begin self-exams by age 20. To find out more about conducting a self-exam, visit the American Cancer Society's web site.
Your health care provider will conduct a clinical breast exam to check for changes or abnormalities in your breasts. You should have an annual check-up by your primary care professional or a gynecologist to have your clinical breast examination. |
